INCIDENCE, PREVALENCE AND MORTALITY IN VARIOUS DISEASES

ABSTRACT

The majority of studies support an excess of male to female cases. The average ratio of male to female standardised rates is 1.35 from prevalence studies and 1.31 from incidence studies, but the range of values is wide. This excess is seen for both multi-source and population-based studies, but the male excess appears smaller in population-based studies. The possibility that relative reduction of risk seen in women may be a role biological effect is supported by data from a large cohort study of women who had their ovaries removed surgically for gynaecological reasons.

We find disease incidence and prevalence are both higher among Americans in age groups 55-64 and 70-80 indicating that Americans suffer from higher past cumulative

1.1  Problem Statement:

More problematic are the errors that arise from the method by which the sample is chosen. A gastroenterologist who has a special interest in various diseases may be referred patients whose cases are unusual or difficult, the clinical course and complications of which are atypical of the disease more generally. Such systematic errors cannot usually be measured, and assessment therefore becomes a matter for subjective judgement.

1.2 Scope of the study

Incidence and prevalence of diseases are seen as distinct from treatment, but complementary in a common goal of reducing the burden of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders on the healthy development of

ABSTRACT

Infection prevention and control is both a national and international priority, with compliance with precautions being sub-optimal. One of the reasons suggested for poor compliance is a lack of appropriate education for health care professionals. There is a limited body of research available which considers infection prevention and control education for nursing students, particularly in clinical placements and no identified research in this area in healthcare.

In this project we have studies infection control practices in hospital and specially dental department. Dental personnel may be exposed to a wide variety of microorganisms in the blood and saliva of patients they treat in the dental operatory. This research was undertaken with the overall aim of exploring and analysing the experiences and learning needs of nursing and healthcare students in relation to infection prevention and control in their clinical placements.

Several themes emerged from the body of work including the nature of infection prevention and control practice that is perceived as good or poor practice; attitudes towards infection prevention and control; barriers and motivators to learning about infection prevention and control; attitudes towards the infection prevention and control nurse and barriers to reporting poor practice.

This was a detailed study which used a standardized, structured self-administered questionnaire to survey knowledge, attitude and practice of infection prevention and controlat the hospital. The study enrolled 50 respondents among them 5 doctors, 20 nurse, 10 trainee doctors and 15 house keeping staff.
