1. Explain the role of MIS in
organization, its planning and decision making.
Answer :
2. Explain the factors influencing
successful use of MIS in an organization.
Answer : A Management Information
System (MIS) is a network of software tools that connects all departments of an
organization to facilitatethe management of information. Management information
systems specifically enable executives (managers) to collate information and
thereby make informed decisions. But these systems are also used by the overall
workforce to gather and distribute information across different levels of the
organization. The effectiveness and success of management information systems
is influenced by several factors within the workplace.
Management information systems are a
combination of a wide array of databases that belong to different departments
in an organization. An MIS is successful if all users are able to easily
operate the system to do their jobs. Operational viability is the ease of use
the system offers to all users within the organization. An MIS may be
irrelevant or unsuccessful if users are having difficulties using it to manage
information.

3. Discuss the factors contributing
success and failure of MIS.
Answer : MIS - The factors of
Success and Failure
Many organizations
use MIS successfully, others do not. Though the hardware and the software is
the latest and has appropriate technology, its use is more for the collection
and storage of data and its elementary processing. There are some factors which
make the MIS a success and some others, which make it a failure. These factors
can be summarized as follows:
If a MIS is to be
success then it should have all the features listed as follows:

4. Write a descriptive account on
Relational Database Management System.
Answer : A relational database
management system (RDBMS) is a database management system (DBMS) that is based
on the relational model as introduced by E. F. Codd, of IBM's San Jose Research
Laboratory. Many popular databases currently in use are based on the relational
database model.
RDBMSs have become[when?] a
predominant choice for the storage of information in new databases used for
financial records, manufacturing and logistical information, personnel data,
and much more. Relational databases have often replaced legacy hierarchical
databases and network databases because they are easier to understand and use.
However, relational databases have been challenged by object databases, which

5. Describe the essential
characteristics of Decision Support System.
Answer : How do you know a
computerized system is a decision support system (DSS)? This question is
important because knowledge transfer is more meaningful when we classify and
categorize. Identifying characteristics, distinguishable features, attributes
or aspects of all DSS helps distinguish such systems from other systems. Once
accurate classification occurs, we are more likely to identify patterns and
generalizations. In general, information systems that provide decision relevant
information and results are decision support systems. DSS are interactive
computer-based systems and subsystems intended to help decision-makers.
