PART – I


1)    Write an Essay on Sustainable Tourism Development.                                                          25

Answer : Sustainable tourism is tourism attempting to make as low an impact on the environment and local culture as possible, while helping to generate future employment for local people. The aim of sustainable tourism is to ensure that development brings a positive experience for local people, tourism companies and the tourists themselves. Sustainable tourism is an adopted practice in successful ecotourism.

Third World countries are especially interested in international tourism, and many believe it brings countries a large selection of economic benefits including employment opportunities, small business development, and increased in payments of foreign exchange. Many assume that more money is gained through developing luxury goods and services in spite of the fact that this increases a countries dependency on imported products, foreign investments and expatriate skills. This classic 'trickle down' financial strategy rarely makes its way down to benefit people at a grassroots level.

1)            Discuss the views, roles and responsibilities of WTO.                                             15
Answer : The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an organization that intends to supervise and liberalize international trade. The organization officially commenced on 1 January 1995 under the Marrakech Agreement, replacing the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which commenced in 1948.[5] The organization deals with regulation of trade between participating countries; it provides a framework for negotiating and formalizing trade agreements, and a dispute resolution process aimed at enforcing participants'


2)            What is Wildlife Tourism and how mass tourism has adversely affected wildlife in India?   15    
 Answer : Tourism and the environment have a very complex and interdependent relationship. Tourism is one of the largest industries in today's world economy and is a great source of  foreign exchange for many developing countries, whose major assets are their natural resources.  At the same time, it is the environmental quality of a place that will determine the success of the tourism industry, since it is the principal attraction.  There have been disagreements on whether tourism in beneficial or harmful to the environment, and this paper lays out the arguments for both sides, as well as analyzing the issue with several case studies. This analysis will illustratethattourism, if unplanned and unregulated, can   be extremely harmful to the environment,andtherefore needs a better, more sustainable   alternative that involves the local population in the planning and management of tourism.

Answer: Specific situation of coastal areas

Coastal areas are transitional areas between the land and sea characterized by a very high biodiversity and they include some of the richest and most fragile ecosystems on earth, like mangroves and coral reefs. At the same time, coasts are under very high population pressure due to rapid urbanization processes.
